Child Protection

Child Protection

The requirement for coaches to have an awareness of child protection issues has become increasingly important. Many governing bodies for sport cover this subject as part of their coaching qualifications or request that coaches attend an awareness course. You can find more information about child protection by:

  • Attending a workshop
  • Reading a publication/Home Study pack
  • Contacting an organisation responsible for child protection

Attending a workshop Safeguarding and Protecting Children

A workshop entitled Safeguarding and Protecting Children is available from sports coach UK. This three hour workshop is for coaches and volunteers in sport and focuses on the essential good practices to protect both the child and coach. These workshops run throughout Wales. The link below will provide you with details of courses running in your areas, alternatively if you have a group of coaches (at least six) who would like to attend the workshop you may want to consider organising your own workshop. To find out about courses available in your area, click on the document on the right.

NSPCC/Educare Child Protection Awareness Programme

Keeping Children Safe in Sport

This introductory training programme has been developed to help clubs enable their staff and volunteers to recognise and understand their role in protecting children in their care. It will help them develop the knowledge and skills needed to identify possible risks to children's safety and to respond appropriately.

The programme can be completed at home or at your club. It will be helpful to anyone working with children in a sports club or other sports environments.
