Mentoring

As the coaching profession is emerging, the need for mentoring opportunities is becoming increasingly important. The UK Coaching certificate places an emphasis on mentoring and it is likely that mentoring will become used by sports more and more. It can prove an excellent way to develop as a coach and is a powerful tool in the education and development of sports coaches at all levels. Whether you want to be mentored or if you are looking for some advice on how to become a successful mentor we can hopefully point you in the right direction.

If you want to find out about opportunities to be mentored the best place to start is to contact the national governing body for your sport. They will be able to put you in touch with some other coaches who you will be able to work with.

What about if you want to become a mentor? Firstly you may want to contact your governing body for advice on how to become a mentor and to find out if they recommend any suitable training for you. Alternatively, you could enrol on a sports coach UK course called A Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches. This three hour workshop helps you identify the roles of a mentor, how learning occurs and the ways in which you can support coaches.
