Recognising the work of coaches
Sport is dependant upon the many volunteer coaches that give up so much of their time to help others. Several organisations in Wales run annual sports award ceremonies to value and recognise those individuals that contribute to the development of sport; a category for coaches is often included in this. For information on local awards ceremonies contact your sports development unit; if they do hold an annual ceremony they will be able to provide you with nomination details.
On a national level the Sports Council for Wales organise a Coach of the Year Awards. The nomination categories are:
- Volunteer Coach of the Year
- Coach to Disabled Sportspeople
- Teacher Coach of the Year
- Coach through the medium of Welsh
- Sports Council for Wales Coach of the Year
Anyone can nominate a coach for an award. We encourage as many nominations as possible so if you know of a coach who is worthy of such an award make sure you nominate them!
For further information contact the Coaching Unit at the Sports Council for Wales - 029 2033 8213 or email coachingwales@scw.co.uk.
The Sports Council for Wales's awards ceremony also links to the UK Coach of the Year Awards which is held by sports coach UK. The winners of the Welsh Awards are automatically nominated for the UK Award.
