Sports leadership
Sports Leader UK uses the medium of sport to help people learn essential skills. Anyone can become a sports leader; as long as they are 14 or older and have some get up and go. There is an awards structure in place which allows you to assist and lead sessions. If you are keen to do an introductory course that will act as a stepping stone to becoming a coach in a specific sport then you could start by doing a Sports Leader Award. You certainly don't need to be a sporting superstar to get involved.
They are nationally recognised qualifications at levels 1, 2 & 3 and the courses develop a range of leadership skills such as planning, preparing and delivering a sports session. The awards are multi sport so an ideal starting point for everyone wanting to get involved in leading or coaching sporting activities. Sports Leader Awards get you involved in learning by doing. You actually lead sports and physical activity as a volunteer as part of the course. You learn how to organise and motivate yourself and other people, and improve your communication skills. This can really boost your confidence and help you in work, education and life.
The courses are especially good for 14-18 year olds so if you have an older teenager get them involved - it could transform them!
