Coaching Organisations

There are several organisations who have a remit for developing coaching. You may find these a useful contact and you may want to find out more about the work they are doing. We have summarised these below:

UK SportUK Sport - are primarily concerned with the development of a World Class High Performance System in the UK. They are responsible for developing coaching at an elite level and administer an Elite Coach Scholarship Programme and World Class Coaching Conference.

sports coach UKSports coach UK -are the body for sports coaching in the UK. In addition to the many coaching workshops they develop they also work with organisations like the Sports Council for Wales and governing bodies of sport to help guide and develop their coaching systems.

Welsh Assembly Government - the Sports Policy Unit within the Welsh Assembly Government are responsible for developing the sport and physical activity policy in Wales. Coaching is an important element of this, which is where the Coaching Plan for Wales has been developed.

Sports Council for Wales - The Coaching Unit at the Sports Council for Wales are working towards achieving the key aims in the Coaching Plan for Wales. They work in partnership with all the organisation mentioned in this section to improve coaching opportunities.

National Governing Bodies of Sport - Most sports have a national governing body, they are responsible for the organisation and administration of the entire sport; ultimately each governing body is responsible for the development of their sport throughout Wales. They deal with all issues regarding coaching and are therefore a key contact. They will be able to provide you with information about the courses available, along with dates and times of courses running throughout Wales.

Sports Development Unit - All local authorities in Wales have a sports development unit with a remit for developing coaching. They have a good knowledge on what is going on at a local level and can provide you with details about coaching courses in your area, funding and how to get involved in a local club

Skills Active - SkillsActive are a registered charity that consults employers on the skills they need for their workforce which includes sport and therefore coaching. They are responsible for producing a Sector Skills Agreement between employers, the Government, funding partners and training providers to ensure those needs are met.
