Drug Free Sport

As a coach you have a responsibility to ensure athletes know their rights and are aware of the anti doping rules that they compete under. Coaches should understand and value the purpose of the drug testing programme and should be aware of all the services available to enable them to guide those that they coach appropriately.

UK Sport lead the anti-doping programme for the UK and are responsible for improving the education and promotion of ethically fair and drug-free sport. Whilst athletes should always check medication as per the rules of their sports they should not compromise medical advice regarding the timely consumption of medication. It is advised that all coaches take a look at their website for further information. There is a section for sports personnel, athletes and coaches, providing guidance on drug-free policies and procedures as well as a Drug Information Database which allows you to search for the status of a licensed pharmaceutical product available in the UK.
