The Coaching Plan for Wales
The Coaching Plan for Wales was launched in July 2005. It is an integral part of the Welsh Assembly Government's Climbing Higher Strategy for Sport, and has two main aims:
- To increase the number of coaches, leaders and instructors both voluntary and professional
- To improve the quality of coaching in Wales by increasing opportunities for education, training and qualifications
These aims will be achieved by:
- Raising the profile of coaching
- Implementing the UK Coaching Certificate in Wales
- Improve Education and Training
- Increase the number of community based coaches
- Improve the quality of coaches
- Employ more coaches
- Employ Regional Talent Development Coaches
- Provide Coach Scholarships
- Create 'Coaching Visions'
- Increase opportunities to deliver coach education through the medium of Welsh
- Improve outdoor activity training
- Create a Register of Exercise Professionals
- Further develop core courses for coaches
- Provide opportunities to learn from overseas coaches
- Further enhance the Lottery funded Coach Cymru programme
